Clearing the Cobwebs and Mail Art

Mail Art
Well, my blog has been unwarrantedly left dormant for almost half a year now. I did give birth to a baby boy this past Valentine's Day but that isn't much of a reason to stop blogging completely! In the meantime, I've been busy working on small projects that require short spans of time and ADD-like behavior which I'd like to share with you.
I've been slowly getting back to using ye olde United States Post Office to correspond with friends, both new and old. I exchanged snail mail quite often during my college days, but after a while, I was the one responsible for letting the letter writing slide.
With the rise of social networking, people have been connecting publicly via their Facebook and Twitter feeds. Among family and friends, there is but a small percentage of people I actually talk to regularly in person, less on the phone, and even lesser, by snail mail. I can safely say that good old e-mail is now a quite rare form of social communication these days. It's considered a spam collector or mandatory for work or business correspondence. Writing letters has been quite therapeutic to me lately. Many of those posts on social networks just get glanced at and oftentimes ignored, but when you address a letter specifically to an individual, your letter is especially written for them and more than likely, each and every word you write will be devoured.
As I started writing letters to old friends, I've been using my old stationery stash which dates back to the early to mid 1990's. Since then, my artistic preference has changed, and I've been unsatisfied with sending a letter that was just not decorated enough. Since I wasn't putting much time into drawing, painting, or designing in the latter months of my pregnancy, there was a void in my creative life and I needed an outlet which eventually took the form of Mail Art!
